Bit Discovery Banks $4 Million for Attack Surface Management Tech

Jeremiah Grossman’s Bit Discovery has banked another $4 million in venture capital funding to compete in the crowded attack surface management space.

The Series B funding round was led by Mighty Capital and return investor Aligned Partners and includes smaller investments from prominent security practitioners including former Facebook security chief Alex Stamos and Black Hat and DEF CON founder Jeff Moss.

Bit Discovery has raised a total of $6.6 million to build and sell an attack surface management tool to help security programs to identify and manage Internet-connected assets.

Attack surface management is a new product category meant to address gaps in point-in-time penetration testing and vulnerability management.  It has emerged as a highly competitive category with multiple startups jostling for market share.

Well-funded players in the attack surface management space include Bishop Fox, Intrigue, Randori and CyCognito.

Bit Discovery’s Grossman, a cybersecurity pioneer who previously co-founded WhiteHat Security, described his company’s technology as “essential to vulnerability management, identifying areas of unknown risk, M&A processes, and IoT device identification.”

“Fundamentally we don’t want to see any more companies breached simply because they don’t know what they own – especially not now when an answer exists,” Grossman said.

The Bit Discovery  product automates the scanning of Internet-connected assets on a continuous basis, flagging security problems to alert security teams in  real-time whenever a portfolio changes.
