The City of San Diego plans to upgrade security in its IT department, including adding cloud support to the city’s digital services.

San Diego will add public cloud support that provides services such as improved technology that supports departmental customer call centers, disaster recovery capabilities and data storage. The city will also receive support for over 1,000 servers and associated storage and software that host more than 300 city application systems.

The city will centralize IT services with new Service Desk Services that provide a contact point for nearly 5,000 service desk calls each month. San Diego will also receive end-user device security support for over 18,000 desktops, laptops and printers and enhanced mobile device support for about 6,000 city- and employee-owned devices that have been critical during the pandemic.

The upgrade aims to enhance the city’s Data Center and secure the devices of all city employees.
